$this->Post->read('Functionality and Design.');
I was originally going to title this post "Design vs Functionality", but that's against the spirit of what I want to say.
In modern day web design, websites - nay, "web apps" are getting better and better looking. As companies like Facebook and Twitter revamp their website "one more time", the competition is getting stiffer and stiffer and so more and more time is being spent on designing.
So it's important to spend some time on your design as well as your functionality these days! Users of the modern web expect a more polished website now more than ever. You can have a website that, functionality wise, works better than Facebook but if your design isn't up to scratch then your users won't use the site.
As a programmer you may be tempted to do everything yourself, design AND code. I have fallen into this trap myself, but at the end of the day it's a very rare breed of programmer who can also design.
Anyway, I'm just saying that it's really horrible to visit websites to see that there is huge potential, but the design side of things is hugely lacking, and I recommend that if you're a programmer - hire or get a friend to design the site for you. The site will most likely look better for it.
